AI HARDWARE

Our Report: Zuckerbergā€”currently touring Asiaā€”is actively pursuing collaborations with big tech leaders (including Samsung) in Asia, to bolster the development of AI chips.

šŸ”‘Ā Key Points:

  • During a meeting with South Korean President (Yoon Suk Yeol), Zuckerberg expressed Metaā€™s interest in partnering with Samsung to develop AI chips.

  • Some are saying that this could be a strategic move to mitigate potential geopolitical risks in Taiwan, where the worldā€™s largest contract chip manufacturerā€”TSMCā€”is based.

  • Zuckerberg also met with Japan's Prime Minister to discuss semiconductors, reflecting Metaā€™s commitment to working with countries with processor experience.

  • This also follows meetings with LGā€”earlier this weekā€”to discuss a potential collaboration to build an extended reality device set to rival Appleā€™s Vision Pro.

šŸ¤ØĀ Why you should care: This signifies Metaā€™s focus on advancing its AI capabilities andā€”by collaborating with countries with AI hardware experienceā€”hints at plans to challenge NVIDIAā€™s global AI chip dominance, aligning with the development of Artemis, their in-house chip.

ROBOTICS

  • Amazon's innovation fund is planning to invest $1B in start-ups that are focused on developing and building autonomous robots that combine AI with Machine Learning.

  • This is a strategic move aimed at optimizing operations and increasing logistical efficiencies across Amazon's huge global network of distribution warehouses.

  • By leveraging AI, robots can optimize things like procurement fulfillment, inventory management, and delivery routes, leading to faster and more accurate deliveries.

  • Amazon has already invested ā‚¬400M in industrial robotics for its European warehouses, and Bezos and Amazon are investing a total of $150M into robotic start-up, Figure AI.

āœ… Last week, we released our latest GPT, the Prompt Engineer. This week, we're excited to feature three standout use cases from readers who have creatively utilized the Prompt Engineer since our introduction.

Todayā€™s community prompt is: Improving LinkedIn Content by Jason D.

"You're a thought leader in the tech industry. Create a LinkedIn post questioning the future of AI in the workplace. Ask your network to share their predictions, concerns, and hopes about how AI might change job roles, efficiency, and employee satisfaction. Encourage a diverse range of perspectives to spark a rich, engaging discussion."

FINANCE
  • Following the release of Copilot for Sales and Copilot for Service, Microsoft has announced a public preview of ā€˜Copilot for Financeā€™, designed for finance teams.

  • The Copilot chatbot will complete time-consuming, manual, and repetitive financial tasks, such as collections, variance analysis, and data reconciliation.

  • It will connect with financial systems (including Dynamics 365 and SAP) to automate workflows and provide actions and recommendations within Outlook and Excel.

  • Microsoftā€™s finance team (who were involved in the development) have reported that tasks that usually take up to 2 hours are now taking them 20 minutes, with the tool.

AI HARDWARE
  • Bolstered by increased demand for AI hardware, Intel has announced plans for its newly standalone programmable AI chip unit (Altera), which it acquired in 2015.

  • Altera CEOā€”Sandra Riveraā€”has plans to attract private investment for Altera this year, with the end goal of making it a publicly listed company by the end of 2026.

  • This strategic move aligns with Intelā€™s wider company goal of surpassing chip manufacturing giantsā€”such as TSMC and Samsungā€”by the end of 2025.

  • Alteraā€™s chips are used for encrypting data or powering 5G phones and fall between custom processors by companies like Amazon and general-use AI chips by NVIDIA.

INTERIOR DESIGN
  • 22 years after launching her interior design business, seven-time Grand Slam champion Venus WilliamsĀ has launched Palazzo, a generative AI interior design platform.

  • Although still in its experimental phase, Palazzo can create design ideas based on uploaded photos, to inspire and help people envision new room interiors.

  • Users can upload photos of the room they want to re-design and input their requirements, and Vinciā€”an AI-powered assistantā€”will generate edited photos of the room.

  • For example, if a user uploads photos of their bedroom and asks Vinci to design it with a mid-century theme, it will create images with mid-century furniture, decor, and colors.
