FACT OF THE DAY

🤔 If you ask some AI models to explain the meaning of our world, they will sometimes search through all the data in the world and come back with: "42." Looks like even AI is a fan of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy!

SECURITY

OpenAI in crypto breach

Our Report: OpenAI’s newsroom account on X (formerly Twitter) has been hacked by cryptocurrency scammers, who were promoting a fake cryptocurrency called "$OPENAI."

🔑 Key Points:

  • The hackers described the fake currency as “the gap between Al and blockchain technology,” which “all OpenAI users” were eligible for, and those who held tokens would also get access to future OpenAI beta programs.

  • The post linked out to a fake website—mimicking the official OpenAI website—which asked users to connect their cryptocurrency wallets, which would then expose their login details to the hackers.

  • Neither X nor OpenAI have explained how the breach happened, if anyone has been compromised, or how they’ll stop it from happening again, leaving many questioning the platform's security.

🤔 Why you should care: This isn’t the first time these cryptocurrency hackers have targetted OpenAI with this type of phishing scam: Three months ago, they used OpenAI’s chief scientist’s (Jakub Pachocki) and researcher’s (Jason Wei) accounts to promote the fake currency, and did the same to OpenAI’s CTO, Mira Murati, last June.

DEVELOPMENT

OpenAI empowers global developers

Our Report: OpenAI has launched ‘OpenAI Academy,’ which gives developers in middle to low-income countries access to training, technical guidance, and $1M of API credits to help them “solve hard problems and catalyze economic growth” in sectors like healthcare, education, and agriculture.

🔑 Key Points:

  • OpenAI wants to “ensure that the transformative potential of AI is accessible and beneficial to diverse communities worldwide,” and believes giving access to AI technology will “drive sustainable development.

  • Alongside removing barriers to technical resources, they’ll also host incubator programs to build a global network of developers to help foster collaboration and knowledge-sharing across diverse regions.

  • They haven’t announced which countries are eligible, or when the registration deadline is, but it’s thought Afghanistan, Bangladesh, or Angola—which fall into middle to low-income categories—could be first to enroll.

🤔 Why you should care: Critics believe that this is just neo-technological colonialism, with OpenAI wanting to increase dependencies on its technology around the world, while others believe this is just a way of closing the AI gap, accelerating growth for poorer countries.

The AI consulting market is about to grow by a factor of 8X – from $6.9B now, to $54.7B in 2032.

But how does an AI enthusiast become an AI consultant?

How well you answer that question makes the difference between just “having AI ideas” and being handsomely compensated for your contribution to an organization’s AI transformation.

Thankfully, you don’t have to go it alone – our friends at Innovating with AI just welcomed 200 new students into The AI Consultancy Project, their new program that trains you to build a business as an AI consultant. Some of the highlights current students are excited about:

  • It’s reportedly using voices, images, and personalities from celebrities like Judi Dench, Kristen Bell, and John Cena for the chatbot, which was initially discontinued, and previously just provided test-based responses.
