REGULATIONS
Our Report: OpenAI is adapting to EU data privacy regulations by updating its terms to comply more closely with GDPR.
🔑 Key Points:
The company now operates under OpenAI Ireland Limited for residents in the European Economic Area (EEA) and Switzerland, and the move is a response to investigations and concerns over ChatGPT's impact on user privacy in the EU.
The GDPR’s one-stop-shop mechanism will centralize privacy oversight in Ireland, where OpenAI's Dublin-based subsidiary is located, with their new GDPR practices coming into play on February 15th, 2024.
In summary, this new mechanism allows OpenAI to process European’s data under a single data lead (in Ireland)—meaning privacy watchdogs across Europe will be directed to the Irish facility rather than back to the US with complaints.
