Our Report: A recent report finds OpenAI spends approximately $700,000 daily to run ChatGPT, and it may go bankrupt by the end of 2024 if it doesn't turn a positive revenue.
🔑 Key Points:
OpenAI's annual revenue projection is $200 million in 2023, aiming for $1 billion in 2024, but even new revenue projections could still land them in deep trouble.
ChatGPT users have declined from 1.9 billion user visits in May, to 1.5 billion in July. Furthermore, losses have doubled to $540M since the development of ChatGPT.
API cannibalization may be a reason for the decline, as companies shift from using the generative AI chatbot to leveraging ChatGPT in other workflows.
Challenges such as GPU shortage and competition from rival chatbots (Bard, Llama-2, Claude) are also affecting the company.
