AI WEARABLES

Our Report: Apple's Vision Pro headset is touted to go on sale starting February 2nd in the US, with a starting price of $3,499ā€”making it Appleā€™s most significant product launch since the iPhone in 2007.

šŸ”‘Ā Key Points:

  • The headset features advanced technology including an exterior display (which shows a personā€™s eyes within the headset) and a new processing chipā€”which allows the headset to process information from the outside world in less than a blink of an eye.

  • This is one of Appleā€™s most expensive product launches, and wealthy tech enthusiasts who buy the product will be able to browse the web, chat with friends, and watch movies in a resolution beyond 4K.

  • The product will compete directly with Meta Platforms in the mixed-reality market, although we imagine the Vision Pro to be in a league of its own due to the price tag.

šŸ¤ØĀ Why you should care: Apple's foray into the mixed-reality market with the Vision Pro represents a bold move to capture market share in a space currently dominated by Metaā€”although, due to the price tag, and the fact it has to be plugged into a power source at all times, weā€™re particularly unsure how this product launch will go.

In Partnership with OctoML

Fine-tuned LLMs are the best way to create highly customized experiences in your applications, and a smaller fine-tuned Mixtral 7B can even outperform larger, general-purpose models like GPT 4 in quality and cost for specific use cases.

But popular LLM serving platforms charge 2x for inference APIs on fine-tuned models. Say no to excessive taxation and bring your fine tunes to OctoAI!

  • Host any fine-tuned Llama 2, Code Llama, or Mi(s/x)tral models on OctoAIĀ

  • Run inferences at the same low per-token pricing as the default Chat and Instruct models in OctoAI

  • Experience the same super-fast latency available for default models

SMART HOMES & MORE

  • At CES 2024, LG showcased its commitment to AI with a shift towards smart living solutions, by redefining AI as 'Affectionate Intelligence'.

  • Amongst other things, they introduced a new Smart Home Hub for secure data management and a helpful home robot for assistance and emergency support.

  • Their advancements also extend with a vision for AI-integrated vehicles, transforming driving into a more comfortable and interactive experience (see more on this from VW below).

AI CHIP TECHNOLOGY
  • At CES 2024, NVIDIA announced that it will be enhancing its consumer graphics cards to support local AI applications.Ā

  • Their latest chipsā€”including the RTX 4060 Superā€”feature additional tensor cores designed for AI tasks.

  • These advancements enable applications like image generation and background removal in video calls without relying on the cloud.

  • This move positions Nvidia to compete in the growing AI PC market, alongside rivals Intel and AMD, by offering powerful AI capabilities directly on PCs and laptops.

IN-VEHICLE AI
  • Volkswagen have introduced vehicles with a voice assistant featuring ChatGPT technology at CES 2024.

  • The integration allows drivers to access researched content and control in-car entertainment through voice commands (pretty great for keeping drivers focused on the road).

  • They are the first major car manufacturer to standardize this technology in their compact car segment (other companies have put this in standard models).

  • Volkswagen plans to expand the chatbot's capabilities for more interactive conversations.

COPYRIGHT LAW & AI
  • OpenAI (currently facing a lawsuit from The NYT) has emphasized its support for journalism with a new blog.

  • Theyā€™ve highlighted their efforts to work with news outlets, offering AI tools to assist journalists.

  • Theyā€™re maintaining that training AI models on publicly available materials is fair use and offers an opt-out for publishers.
