LAUNCHES
Our Report: At its AWS re:Invent 2024 conference, Amazon unveiled a family of six AI models—called Nova—with four text-generation models (Micro, Lite, Pro, and Premier—Premier is arriving in early 2025), that can handle over 15 languages, one image-generation model (Canvas), and one video-generation model (Reel).
🔑 Key Points:
Micro—the smallest—handles just text but is the fastest, Lite is “low cost” and can handle image, video, and text, Pro is multimodal, accurate, and quick, and Premier will be a “teacher” for creating custom models.
Canvas allows users to create/edit images via prompts and Reel can create videos up to six seconds long (taking three minutes to generate) via prompts, with users able to add effects like 360-degree rotations.
The Nova family is available on Amazon’s dev platform—AWS Bedrock—can be fine-tuned on text, images, and video, and are reportedly the fastest models available, and the least expensive to run.
🤔 Why you should care: Amazon is clearly playing catch-up to the likes of OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic—who have already released similar AI models—but Amazon does have an advantage up its sleeve: It has a solid internet infrastructure already in place, which is powered by AWS, which many large enterprises use and trust, meaning they might be more willing to use Amazon’s AI models over others.

TOGETHER WITH SUBSTRATA
Complex deals are often affected by office politics, hierarchies, egos, emotions, attitudes, and power dynamics. Using Substrata can significantly increase the chances of securing B2B deals across many industries and categories.
Substrata has developed dozens of specialized AI models to help dealmakers navigate the subtle "social dance" between sellers and prospects:
Analyze any prospect's LinkedIn profile to extract their natural personality structure and tendencies
Monitor your prospects' fluctuating levels of interest (Signals)
Analyze any thread or message to determine real sentiment and relative balance of power
Simulate message drafts before sending them to eliminate potential risks or issues
Optimize responses, follow-ups, and more
Track your and your team's ongoing performance
Substrata uses Social Signal Processing (SSP), which is a specialized AI domain that deals with the detection, analysis, and synthesis of behavioral data from digitally mediated human-human interactions, such as B2B dealmaking, sales, and HR interviews. It encompasses both verbal and nonverbal data.

LAUNCHES
Our Report: Alongside the Nova family, Amazon also announced (at re:Invent 2024) that it's releasing an “industry-first” tool—Automated Reasoning checks (lowercase ‘c’ is intentional)—designed to stop AI models from hallucinating.
🔑 Key Points:
Automated Reasoning is a type of AI that uses math to prove if something is correct and excels at giving precise and accurate answers when it has a well-defined set of rules or a big knowledge set to draw from.
Once a customer has uploaded their data into an AI model, Automated Reasoning checks will develop rules for it to follow and cross-reference its responses to the customer-supplied data to verify if it's right/wrong.
Professional services firm, PwC, is already using the tool to create accurate and trustworthy AI assistants for clients in heavily regulated industries like healthcare, science, and the Food and Drug Administration.
🤔 Why you should care: Although Amazon is positioning Automated Reasoning checks as the “first” safeguard for hallucinations, the tool appears to be similar to the ‘Correction’ feature that Microsoft released in September—which highlights and catches factually incorrect text—and while Amazon says its tool uses “logically accurate” and “verifiable reasoning” to arrive at its conclusions, it hasn’t provided any real evidence to show that the tool is reliable.

GLOBAL AI
Hugging Face CEO, Clement Delangue, becomes the latest to raise concerns about China’s open-source AI models censoring sensitive topics, mainly around the Chinese government.
He warned that if Western companies built on top of these Chinese AI models, it could influence global culture as the models are unlikely to respond to the same as systems from France or the US would, for example.
He’s concerned that if China becomes the strongest in the AI space, “they will be capable of spreading certain cultural aspects that perhaps the Western world wouldn’t want to see spread.”

CONTENT MODERATION
Amid increasing pressure to boost the safety of AI models, Meta has declared their content moderation systems are too strict and has vowed to improve their content policies to rectify this.
It said their current moderation policies are producing error rates that are “too high” and as a result, “harmless content gets taken down or restricted and too many people get penalized unfairly.“
For instance, Meta regrets taking down large amounts of content related to the global pandemic, which they did in response to government pressure, and pledged to push back if something similar happens again.
