🧠 News: Google finds increasing misuse of AI in global politics

Read Time: 4 minutes

Our Report: Google-owned U.S. cybersecurity firm Mandiant recently reported a growing use of AI in manipulative online information campaigns.

🔑 Key Points:

  • Mandiant's researchers have identified "numerous instances" since 2019 where AI-generated content has been utilized in politics.

  • These campaigns were reported to be linked with various governments around the world, including Russia, China, Iran, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Cuba, Argentina, Mexico, and Ecuador

  • For example, a pro-China information campaign named Dragonbridge, has reportedly expanded rapidly, after initially targeting pro-democracy protesters in Hong Kong.

  • Despite the extensive use of AI in these campaigns, Mandiant found that their impact has been limited so far, although they highlight this could be a major concern for the future.

🤨 Why you should care: Mandiant’s report underscores the potential for AI to manipulate the masses through deepfakes and other forms of false, artificial content. Be wary of what you consume & who you believe…

In Partnership with Masterworks

A Harvard data scientist and his crack team have figured out a way to allow everyday people to benefit from a previously “off-limits” investment through the Masterwork’s platform:

  • Invest in blue-chip art for a fraction of the cost

  • Utilize a proprietary database of secret art market information

  • Get access to an unrivaled quantitative edge in analyzing the market

So far, it's been right on the money. With all 15 of its exits, Masterworks has achieved a profit, delivering +17.8%, +21.5%, and +35.0% annualized net returns.

Google is set to challenge the dominance of OpenAI's ChatGPT with its new family of LLM’s—Gemini, which is set to launch this fall.

Bard and enterprise applications (incl. Google Docs and Slides) will be supercharged with Gemini; using Google’s propriety information from YouTube videos, Google Books, and Google Scholar to give them the information edge over competitors such as ChatGPT.

Arthur Bench is an open-source tool designed to help companies find the most suitable Large Language Model (LLM) for specific tasks.

This tool allows users to test various prompts against different LLMs, like Anthropic and OpenAI, to determine which performs best for their application. So far they’ve found that GPT-4 comes out on top in almost all categories.

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella compared the impact of AI to the profound effects the internet had when it emerged, likening it to a "tidal wave". It’s unlikely that Microsoft’s impact on generative AI would be anything less than a tidal wave considering their $13B investment in the sector.

Interestingly enough, Bill Gates called the internet a tidal wave two decades ago…
